Hands Against Hunger — 1-2 times/year An occasional serve opportunity coordinated by Children’s Ministry. Fun and worthwhile experience for families with kids age 7+. Assembly line packing of nourishing meals for children in disaster areas and underdeveloped countries. As a financial contribution, families are asked to collect quarters and bring contributions to the events. Matthew 25 Ministries — 3-4 times/year A great family-friendly serve opportunity. Matthew 25 is a well-known relief organization responding to disasters around the world. Activities vary, but often involve sorting, counting or packing relief items. Whiz Kids — weekly during the school year Cornerstone sponsors the Cherokee Elementary Whiz Kids site. Whiz Kids is a highly successful program of City Gospel Mission and pairs at-risk children with an adult or older teen who reads with them to bring reading skills to grade level. Whiz Kids also includes a faith lesson each week. If a strong connection is made, the adult can become a long-term mentor for the child. Volunteers commit to one hour weekly after school on Tuesdays. Communion Donations — 1st Sunday of every month On the first Sunday of the month, we celebrate the gift of Holy Communion as a congregation and bring offerings of food in thankfulness. The food is used to support partner food pantries and our Great Easter/Thanksgiving Outreaches.
